The Cherokee National Forest offers a plethora of trails for the outdoor enthusiast. Green Cove is in close proximity to many–including two of the most famous trails our area of the National Forest has to offer.
BENTON MACKAYE TRAIL
The Benton MacKaye Trail (BMT), named in honor of the originator of the Appalachian Trail, covers nearly 300 miles through the Appalachian mountains.
Green Cove Store & Lodge is less than 1.5 miles from the BMT. Our families love to hike along the Benton Mackaye Trail. The first section is quite easy…we’ve even taken toddlers! You follow the stream for the first part of the hike. So if you bring children expect them to have some fun wading in the water.
Whether you are doing a section hike, family fun-day, or hammering out serious miles we are here to help you with lodging or stock you with essentials. Find out more about the trail at the BMTA website.
BALD RIVER FALLS GORGE
The Bald River Falls Gorge hike, spanning 5.6 miles one-way, begins at one of the most photographed waterfalls east of the Mississippi. This stunning natural beauty cascades over 90-feet. Parking is limited.
Green Cove Store & Lodge is less than 8 miles from the trail & waterfall. Whether you hike or just like to take photographs, this siren will cause you to stop in your tracks. It’s a wonder to behold.
